The Role

At Last Mile Health, we make bold commitments that inspire innovation. Do you have experience leading and implementing Education and Training programs? If so, you may be our next Director, Education & Training - Liberia. 

The Director, Education and Training is a two year contract.  The core deliverable expected during this contract period is the planning, design and execution of a hybrid competency based curriculum package for the Community Health Workers across Liberia. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the overall successful implementation of all Upskill activities related to Last Mile Health in Liberia.  The Director, Education and Training will provide leadership and ensure strategic alignment and effective management of the Last Mile Health Upskill strategy especially for the design, development, and production of courses and eLearning content. The Director will engage with Liberia’s Ministry of Health to identify projects and work that aligns to Upskill strategy and Liberia needs primarily in the community health space. This includes work for continuous professional development, initial training for various cadres in community health (inservice and preservice). 

The Director, Education and Training will report to the Deputy Country Director, Programs. This role will be critical for achieving Last Mile Health Liberia’s strategic Upskill goals, as Upskill is one of the three main pillars of LMH work according to the Theory of Change. Overall Upskill success in Liberia resides with this role. 

This position is in Monrovia, Liberia and is open to both Liberian Nationals and International Candidates and will be hired on a 24 months fixed term contract.

 

What You'll Do

Leadership and Management

Oversee the delivery of LMH priorities, planning, government engagement, continued professional development for health system leaders, blended training coordination, multimedia content development, and implementation of digital education. 

  • Lead on the planning, design and execution of a hybrid competency based curriculum for community health workers across Liberia.
  • Oversee strategic planning, budgets, work plans, and the overall direction of the team (e.g. team structure and prioritization and delegation of work).
  • Cultivate a high performing, inclusive, and welcoming team environment 
  • Mentor and coach staff with aim of building specialization and emerging leaders on the Upskill team
  • Ensure representation of the Liberia Upskill team in cross-team discussions about strategy, work planning, budgeting, and grant development  management or support team members to grow to this role.
  • Represent the Liberia Upskill viewpoint at the level of the Senior Leadership Team in Liberia, coaching others to do the same.

Quality Assurance

  • Lead team that develops a framework to ensure continuous learner feedback is collected and ensures iteration occurs with each deployment to better reach the intended audience.
  • Ensures stakeholders engaged in quality assurance sign off along the way prior to proceeding to next step 
  • Identifies risks in quality and makes efforts to mitigate these throughout the process of curriculum development and develops action plan to address gaps in quality
  • Performs final signoff on quality of any deliverables related to Upskill in alignment with LMH Policies and practices
  • Utilize established LMH best practices for Upskill development, while refining for country context.

Strategic Development, Deployment, Implementation and Feedback 

  • Work in conjunction with the Global support team on upskill development project
  • Utilize established LMH best practices for Upskill development, while refining for country context. 
  • Communicate regularly with global support teams on needs and changes to priorities, timelines, and asks.
  • Makes the tough decisions on quality and timelines while adhering to established minimal viable product
  • In partnership with the Monitoring Evaluation Research & Learning team, ensure that there is a Learning Agenda and Logic Model as well as Monitoring & Evaluation plans for Upskill related activities.
  • Practice adaptive management and other appropriate methodologies for Upskill activities, learning from and updating processes based on data

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree in public health, nursing, or education preferred
  • Progressive years of professional experience and strong competencies in public health, curriculum development, and/or digital education

You’ll Impress Us If

  • You have professional experience in project planning and management in education and/other related areas, preferably in rural or low-resource settings
  • You have direct clinical experience and working knowledge of Liberia’s National CHA Program Training Curriculum or relevant health curricula
  • You have experience in health policy work including experience working with the Liberia Ministry of Health and County Health Teams

OVERVIEW OF LAST MILE HEALTH’S COMPENSATION MODEL

Compensation for this position:

  • The band for this position: LBR-4
  • The salary range is: $46,106 USD to $62,657 USD depending upon experience doing an equivalent role.
  • For International staff the salary range is $76,106 USD to $92,657 USD depending upon experience doing an equivalent role.
