The IRC has set up a new People and Culture department to draw together Human Resources (HR), Safeguarding and Gender, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) to integrate our shared objectives into all aspects of our decision making and strategy. More than a joining of distinct teams, the People & Culture Department will help to formulate how employees experience IRC as an organization, and how that experience translates into impact to our clients – those whose lives and livelihoods have been shattered by conflict or disaster.

The People and Culture Implementation Team is looking for an Internal Communications Officer who is passionate about driving impact for IRC staff through transparent, clear, people-centered communications. As the Internal Communications Officer your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement effective internal communication strategies and plans to support and facilitate the smooth transition of organizational restructuring. You will play a critical role in ensuring that all internal stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with the People and Culture Implementation.

If you are someone who understands how internal communications can drive both organizational needs and culture, then this is an outstanding role for you. You will be a member of the P&C Implementation Team and will report to the P&C Implementation Lead, also working closely with IRC’s Global Internal Communications Team.

Deliverables

  • Design and implement comprehensive communication plans to ensure effective dissemination of information related to the People & Culture Implementation. This includes identifying key messages, selecting appropriate communication channels, and establishing timelines for communication activities.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and compelling communication materials such as emails, RescueNet articles, presentations, and FAQs to provide employees with accurate and timely information about the People & Culture Implementation process. Ensure the messages are consistent and aligned with IRC’s Values and GEDI principles.
  • Collaborate with the P&C Implementation team and other key stakeholders to identify their communication needs and develop tailored communication strategies for different internal audiences and employee groups. Provide guidance and support to managers in communicating with their teams during the P&C Implementation process.
  • Oversee the effective utilization of various communication channels, including RescueNet, email newsletters, all hands meetings, and virtual platforms, to ensure that employees receive the necessary information and have opportunities to provide feedback or ask questions.
  • Regularly assess the impact and effectiveness of internal communication initiatives during the P&C Implementation process. Collect feedback from employees, measure engagement levels, and make recommendations for improvement based on the findings.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information related to the P&C Implementation process with utmost discretion. Adhere to ethical guidelines and IRC policies related to Confidential or Proprietary Information.
  • Build connections and work collaboratively with internal communications network at the IRC (global internal comms, RAI internal comms, CRRD internal comms, etc)
  • Support onboarding of new full-time regular Internal Communications role (Title TBD) for People & Culture once hired.
  • Other responsibilities related to People & Culture Department may also be assigned.
