TITLE: Data Management Intern 
LOCATION: Remote OR Hybrid/In-Person at the Elizabeth, NJ office
START DATE: Spring Term  
DURATION: 15 hours per week (or more)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Data Specialist (Site Administrator)

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education, and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:
The Data Management Intern will support IRC’s Elizabeth Office in data management – including data entry, data quality assurance, and data analysis. This is an entry-level data management position. No previous data management experience is required. 
This internship has both practical and theoretical learning goals. 70% of working hours will include assisting with data management tasks, particularly data entry and assuring data accuracy. 30% of working hours will be dedicated to a project developed by the intern in conjunction with the supervising Data Specialist. This role can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person.

Project

  • Developed by the intern in coordination with Data Specialist
  • Must include data analysis and reference humanitarian work
  • Intern will complete supplementary educational materials on data philosophy and ethics 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Interns will learn the foundations of data management, including data system maintenance, data entry, and data analysis
  • Interns will develop an ability for self-guided work.
  • Interns will reflect on the role of data in international humanitarian relief
  • Interns will learn the basics of data philosophy
  • Interns will reflect on the role of ethics in data management
