The Office of the Secretary-General (OSG) supports the Secretary-General in implementing his vision and priorities for the Organisation. We provide high quality advice and support to the Secretary-General to achieve a coordinated and innovative approach to the development and implementation of the OECD’s work. We do this by forming timely and well-founded advice, consulting and coordinating with Members, with Deputy Secretaries, and across Directorates, and fostering a high functioning Organisation.

OSG will provide an exciting opportunity for a Young Associate to support the work on the Secretary-General’s prioritites for the Organisation, including on:

  • Optimising the strength and the quality of the economic recovery of the post-COVID recovery while responding to the economic and social impacts of the war in Ukraine;
  • Leadership on climate action to help secure global net-zero by 2050 in a way that is effective and fair;
  • Seizing the opportunities of the digital transformation while better managing some of the associated risks, challenges and disruptions;
  • Helping to ensure well-functioning global markets and a global level playing field with a rules-based trading system in good working order; and
  • Global engagement: advancing OECD standards, through membership and partnerships and a sound approach to development.

Job Description

Role

Under the mentorship of the OSG Counsellor, the Young Associate will help support the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff and the OSG team in delivering the Secretary-General's strategic objectives. The Young Associate will engage on the substantive preparation of major meetings involving the Secretary-General, and will assist in preparing briefings, talking points, speeches and other material in the context of the Secretary-General’s official functions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive support on a wide range of Ministerial/high-level meetings, workshops and seminars.
  • Prepare briefing material, talking points and speeches for the Secretary-General.
  • Research, edit, fact-check and proof-read a variety of material.
  • Liaise with OECD Directorates in support of the work of OSG.
  • Remain abreast of developments in the global political economy.
  • Carry out other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, political science, public policy, international relations or a related field discipline (graduation date between 1 January 2023 and 1 September 2024). Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered.

Skills

  • Excellent writing and oral skills in English and/or French and ability to develop messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to carry out research and draft briefing notes, meeting summaries and other material.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organisational skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other.
