The case management team is the first point of contact for newly arrived refugees and offerssupport, guidance and counseling through all stages of resettlement. The Case Management Intern position is an opportunity for individuals to learn about the various services Caseworkers provide to newly arrived refugees. Interns are encouraged to assist clients in the field while also shadowing Caseworkers and learning about the documentation of all services provided. Case Management Interns will assist Caseworkers in delivering direct client services, especially within the clients' first three months of resettlement.
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per week (3 month minimum; 6+ months preferred)
Duties:
  • Assist with pre arrival preparation such as purchasing food and delivering supplies
  • Transport clients and help them cash their checks, purchase new cell phones, and become oriented at the
  • grocery store
  • Work with interpreters
  • Assist clients in applying for social security cards
  • Assist Caseworkers in case noting activities with clients, case filing, and supporting the team to complete
  • various tasks

  • Enthusiasm and desire to try new tasks
  • Experience working with English language learners

  • Ability to transport clients in a reliable vehicle
  • Flexibility and wiliness to support other staff members and departments
  • Ability to maintain and respect client’s confidentiality
Learning Objectives:
The Case Management Intern will gain much knowledge about the process of resettling newly arrived refugees and will gain experience in completing the logistical tasks. Interns will be given the opportunity to interact with clients directly and find creative ways to communicate while encouraging the clients to be self sufficient. Interns will also learn about documentation that is required by the government and they will
become familiar with working with government entities such as the Social Security Administration and US Citizenship & Immigration.
