Communications & Development Intern

Time commitment: 10 hours per week (3 month minimum; 6 months preferred)

Duties:

Interview clients, staff members, community stakeholders and partners, and generate content for stories,
reports, and newsletters
Create external content to engage supporters
Assist with planning special events as needed
Support the communications and donor relations strategy
Support the creation of an end of year fundraising strategy and campaign and assist with event marketing
Research funders and strategize funder engagement
Research funding opportunities that align with the IRC in Denver’s Strategic Action Plan
Work with the Development Coordinator to strengthen proposal development systems and processes

Required Skills & Competencies:

Experience or strong interest in journalism, communications, and marketing
Experience or interest in event planning, development, and community outreach
Experience or interest in graphic design and visual storytelling
Excellent written communication skills
Self starter who is able to take initiative on individual projects
Possess strong organizational/multi tasking skills, attention to detail and have an ability to meet deadlines on time
Possess ability to work well independently and in cooperative decision making settings
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook
Comfortable working in a multi cultural environment; international experience and knowledge of refugee issues a plus.

Learning Objectives:

The Communications and Development Intern will gain insight into the grant writing and reporting process for

a nonprofit organization. They will gain experience creating an executing a communications plan and will

have the opportunity to write content for fundraising appeals, donor facing reports, newsletters and

social media.
