Mission and objectives

IOM ARM organization mission TBD

Context

IOM supports the government in upholding migrants’ rights, regardless of their migration status and across all stages of the migration cycle. The organization’s multi-sectoral programmes align with Armenia's international commitments and government priorities, addressing labor migration, human development, social cohesion, voluntary return and reintegration, border management, and counter-trafficking. When emergencies occur, IOM rapidly responds to the needs of the affected populations, including through evidence-based health, shelter, non-food items, protection, and early recovery activities to help those most in need and to strengthen resilience and self-reliance.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the IOM Armenia Head of Office and in close coordination with the relevant project staff, the UNV will be responsible for providing support to IOM Armenia in raising awareness on the issues of the rights of migrants, enhancing the public understanding of IOM’s programming in Armenia, and fostering interaction in social and traditional media channels. In particular, this role will prioritize the emergency response, humanitarian needs, and resilience-building initiatives. This will include the creation, design, dissemination, coordination, and monitoring of external information sharing materials aimed at reaching project participants, government actors, civil society, diaspora, and national and international partners and donors. The UNV will work to support enhanced visibility, publication, and public relations efforts that contribute to IOM Armenia’s overall communications and outreach. 1. Collaborate with the Head of Office and the project teams on project updates, interim and institutional reports, situation reporting, annual reports, news articles, press releases, and other external products and publications. 2. Assist in the development and design of digital content and post creation for the Mission’s social media and website, as well as scheduling posts according to the adopted strategy. Coordinate with technology- and communications-focused colleagues in other offices when needed. 3. Organize public awareness and advocacy campaigns with the project team, partner organizations and relevant stakeholders. 4. Organize public events and activities, contract with media specialists such as photographers when needed, and draft talking points, lines to take, and press briefing notes. 5. Gather, prepare, design, and disseminate public information on the emergency response, migration policy, and the human rights and dignity of people on the move. 6. Assist with translating media content into Armenian/English, editing content, and responding to messages and comments received from the media consumers. 7. Ensure that IOM Armenia’s external products adhere to IOM’s Brand and Design Guidelines, House Style Manual, and photo consent, as well as donor visibility guidelines. 8. Monitor the news and social media to keep up-to-date regarding opportunities to engage with partners and donors, and inform the Head of Office and relevant IOM staff accordingly; 9. Monitor the engagement of the public with IOM Armenia’s external publications; 10. Ensure a proper and regular distribution of IOM visibility materials to partners, diplomatic missions and other relevant institutions in Armenia, including maintaining up-to-date digital and print copies of all outreach materials; 11. Pose digital solutions to increase the efficiency of communications and outreach; 12. As needed, coordinate, train, and oversee the work of volunteers or interns, particularly those focused on communications and outreach; and 13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/expected outputs: In fulfilment of the day-to-day responsibilities and tasks outlined above, the UNV will be expected to deliver the following outputs according to the guidance of the Head of Office: 1. SMART goals to be accomplished during the assignment, such as: a. increase social media engagement by 15%; b. include IOM Armenia’s emergency donation page in 2 outreach efforts per week; c. publish 1 research- and interview-based story per month on the emergency and resilience; d. plan 2 high-level visits; e. organize 3 (1 national and 2 international) feature interviews of the IOM Head of Office or other IOM officials and experts on the emergency and resilience; f. update IOM Armenia’s website and social media weekly; g. publish the IOM Armenia annual report by February 2024; h. engage in 3 UN International Days (e.g. International Migrants Day); etcetera. 2.
