OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO’s first education- related category 1 institute in the Asia and the Pacific region towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute is a leader in the conceptualization, design, and formulation of regional and sub-regional strategies in education for peace and sustainable development, by drawing from the latest research from the science of learning with a particular focus on social emotional learning and seeks to translate robust replicable scientific evidence to pedagogical design, competency development for whole brain learning.

 

Digital gaming has emerged as a powerful new pedagogy for learning in the classroom. MGIEP’s digital pedagogy program includes design game based course centres around digital games to teach skills of socio-emotional and cognitive skills in learners, centred around contemporary themes related to SDG 4.7.

Long Description

Under overall guidance of the Director and direct supervision of the National Project Officer, the digital games pedagogy developer will serve as the primary program resource for content and competency development of modules centred around digital games. Game based courses will be developed using principles of good research design, on UNESCO MGIEP’s learning platform Framerspace (www.framerspace.com) and will seek to build cognitive, academic and socio-emotional skills centred around contemporary themes and in line with global UNESCO goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and design content and assessments on Framerspace that embed social and emotional, cognitive and academic skills using digital games.
  • Continue to expand the game-based learning community with experts from across the world and forge relevant partnerships that align with MGIEP’s mandate
  • Design and coordinate game-based learning sessions for MGIEP’s international conference on digital pedagogies for building peaceful and sustainable societies
  • Plan and coordinate the integration of games as assessment tools within the gaming curriculum
  • Coordinate activities for game-based learning across projects of the institute
  • Support in institute-wide activities as they arise

Education Qualification:

 

  • An advance university degree (equivalent to Mater's) in education/cognitive science/ Digital Pedagogy/Instructional design/digital gaming.
  • Experience in working with teachers and designing toolkits and digital courses.

 

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience with developing or using digital games for learning.

Experience:

  • Experience within game-based curricula development and assessment.
  • Any experience of conducting research with game development or research would be an asset.

 

Languages:

  • Knowledge of another UNESCO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits, which may include, if applicable: 30 days annual leave, reimbursement of medical insurance (up to 5% of base salary), pension plan (up to 10% of base salary), etc. The monthly base salary of NOA R1 is INR 117,116 (Negotiable).
