Nature of Position:
Ibb hub is consisted of three governorates (Ibb, Taiz and Dhale’e), where regular daily/weekly field trips are planned and conducted. UNHCR office is located in Ibb governorate, thus daily movement is planned to different districts and locations following different schedules.
The Driver role and commitment in Ibb Hub, is essential to ensure continuation of movement in supporting UNHCR's operational programs. Functioning within a complex environment marked by one of the most severe humanitarian crises following years of conflict requires good understanding of the work context. The driver needs to fully commit to his duties the code of conduct with respect to confidentiality. In addition to having excellent driving skills, the driver needs to obtain good technical skills with particular experience in driving armed vehicles in different lands topography and weather conditions. Moreover, the driver would be required to carry on additional duties related to maintenance, transporting items and confidential documents. Thus, he/she needs to be entrusted and committed to deliver on time while abiding to regulations and instructions given by his/her supervisor and the Head of office. The driver role requires flexibility and adaptability to change, particularly in emergency and security situations, thus, he/she needs to ensure good training and understanding of of the humanitarian work context.
Essential Requirements:
Driving Proficiency: The applicant must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving history, demonstrating excellent driving skills and a thorough understanding of local traffic rules and regulations. Prior experience in driving in challenging and diverse terrains is highly desirable, with particular capacity to diver armed vehicles. Vehicle Maintenance: Proficiency in day-to-day maintenance of UNHCR vehicles, including armed vehicles is essential. The candidate should be capable of conducting regular checks on oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and other essential components to ensure the vehicles are in optimal working condition. Basic knowledge of minor vehicle repairs is preferred. Compliance and Documentation: The candidate must have a strong understanding of official procedures, rules, and regulations related to driving and vehicle documentations. Attention to details is crucial to ensure all passengers, items, and cargo in the vehicle have valid and accurate documentations. Security Awareness: The applicant should be well-versed in security protocols and guidelines. Strict adherence to instructions and security guidance provided by supervisors and security focal points is mandatory to ensure the safety of passengers, items, and vehicles. The driver is required to complete a series of mandatory trainings to ensure full compliance of the critical requirements including security. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with UNHCR personnel, local authorities, and other stakeholders, are essential. Acceptable command of the English language is important to ensure essential interaction with UNHCR personnel, particularly during road trips and missions. Furthermore, the driver must be able to facilitate immigration and customs formalities efficiently. Cultural Sensitivity: An understanding and respect for local cultures and customs is highly valued. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment enhance the driver's ability to navigate diverse situations. Additionally, the driver needs to ensure full respect to confidentiality and any information shared in his/her presence, with no interference in personal and work context.
Desirable Requirements:
Language Skills: Proficiency in Arabic, both written and spoken is a must, to facilitate effective communication with diverse stakeholders when required. Also, a good command of English is desirable to ensure proper basic communication with UNHCR personnel. Emergency Response: Previous experience in emergency response situations, including familiarity with evacuation procedures and crisis management, is an asset.
