Overview of position

On Sunday, 10 September 2023, Storm Daniel made landfall in Libya causing severe weather conditions and catastrophic flooding in northeastern parts of the country. IOM recognizes the urgency of addressing humanitarian needs for all affected and displaced people.

Therefore, in the aftermath of this emergency, the pressing need for sanitation shelter and Hygiene promotion activities has become vital. The role of the Sanitation and HP Officer is pivotal in this context, as he or she is tasked to ensure dignified, safe, clean, and functional sanitation facilities are accessible to the flood affected population. Additionally, activities to improve hygiene practices at the community level, including WASH-related disease prevention are key to prevent the looming spread of water borne diseases.
