OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Communication for Health (C4H) programme:

  • uses communication as a tool to contribute to better health outcomes in the Western Pacific—targeting particular audiences for specific purposes, responding to gaps in understanding or other barriers to the adoption of health-protecting behaviours, measuring results and applying learning to future communications interventions;
  • uses a "grounds up" approach, listening to and responding to the real needs and preferences of the audience; and
  • draws on a broad range of technical skills and leverages collaboration with key stakeholders, strategic partners and other WHO technical programmes, to create multidisciplinary and intersectoral public health strategies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Communications Officer and guidance of the Communications Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  1. Act as the main focal point in the COM team for corporate content on the WHO Regional website and intranet, in close coordination with the RO Information Technology Group (ITG) and focal points in technical divisions, as well as with Communications and IT focal points in country offices and Headquarters. This involves participating in web working group meetings, uploading stories, images, videos, and documents to the website homepage and media centre, as well as the Region's pages on the Intranet. It also includes proactively reaching out to technical units and country offices to ensure content on the areas of the website for which they are responsible is engaging and up-to-date;
  2. Support digital communication product development through the creation of engaging written, graphic and video content that targets audiences’ needs, delivers information and advice in forms that are accessible, understandable, relevant, credible, actionable and timely, and builds trust in WHO in the Western Pacific Region;
  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of digital strategy (social media and website) by staying abreast of developments, supporting social listening activities and regularly analyzing web and social media reach and engagement statistics, generating reports to enable measurement, evaluation and continuous improvement;
  4. Support the development and execution of social media plans on the Region's social media channels (including Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube);
  5. Support activities to enhance country offices' and RO technical programmes' capacity for strategic use of digital and social media;
  6. Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Completion of secondary education, with some training or experience in the use of digital and/or social media.
Desirable: University degree in communications, marketing, design, visual arts or related area.

Experience

Essential: At least five years' experience in digital communications, social media, audiovisual or related field, preferably with a large international organization.
Desirable: Experience working in the UN.

Skills

  • Experience in roles involving web, social media or other digital communication or digital marketing roles.
  • Thorough and proven knowledge of digital trends and digital platforms (website, social media).
  • Experience with different design platforms and tools (such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop or InDesign).
  • Experience with digital analytics and social media listening tools.
  • Ability to operate multimedia equipment (e.g. video and still cameras and audio recorders, iPhone, etc.) and proficiency in MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks, perform under pressure and deliver high-quality products on deadline.
  • Exercise judgment, pay attention to detail, and take initiative when appropriate.
  • Creativity and ability to learn quickly and innovate.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a diverse team and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at PHP 638,273 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
