Fusion for Energy (F4E) is hiring a Mechanical Engineer who will play a key role in furthering F4E’s contribution to the construction and operation of ITER, the largest fusion energy device/machine in the world. As a member of the Engineering Unit, the Mechanical Engineer will work under the coordination of the System Design and Mechanical Engineering Group Leader. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for solving design problems, follow-up industrial contracts in F4E and provide expertise in the relevant field to ITER Programme and Projects. Located at F4E Barcelona premises, they will have an instrumental role in guiding or developing the design of ITER components. The successful candidate will amongst other tasks: • Supervise the progress of design work packages developed internally or through contracts; • Carry out and coordinate the justification of the design of mechanical/electro-mechanical systems; • Provide technical expertise, propose or implement solutions on mechanical design and fusion technologies, or on other technical areas in the projects of the assigned programme; • Lead technical decisions or participate in technical discussions. Contribute to the resolution of technical problems; • Assess, in coordination with experts from the Material & Manufacturing Technologies & Processes (MMT&P) group, the relevant manufacturing and testing technologies/processes; • Supervise the work of external service providers and F4E experts’ contracts; • Participate to the definition of the procurement strategies for contracts; • Collaborate in the preparation of the technical specifications for the procurement of systems on the respective area of knowledge and participate during negotiations when needed to optimize technical specifications; • Collaborate in technical evaluations of tenders and participate in the negotiations with potential suppliers in view of concluding contracts to implement Design and/or manufacturing activities; • Provide input for the development of budget, cost estimate and schedules in the respective area of responsibilities; • Manage operationally contracts implementation liaising with F4E industrial partners, including the follow-up of the propagation and the verification of the requirements, review of contract deliverables, review and follow-up of technical risks and its mitigation actions and prepare/review of F4E/IO technical documents.
