Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision-makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. In March 2022, the United Nations Environment Assembly at its resumed fifth session (UNEA-5.2) decided that a science-policy panel should be established to contribute further to the sound management of chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution. Through its resolution 5/8, UNEA further decided to convene, subject to the availability of resources, an ad hoc open-ended working group (OEWG) to prepare proposals for the science-policy panel, to begin work in 2022 with the ambition of completing it by the end of 2024. The position is located in the Industry and Economy Division, Secretariat of the ad hoc open-ended working group on a science policy panel on chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution, in Geneva duty station. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Principal Coordinator and will perform the following duties:
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree in project management, public administration, business administration, finance or related fields A minimum of two years of experience in programme / administrative services, e.g., secretariat clerical, finance, programme assistance is required. Prior experience with the UN System is an asset. Prior experience to provide UN meeting support services is strongly encouraged. Fully proficient computer skills, use of web-based platforms and relevant software e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, internal databases, Internet, online meeting platforms, etc.
Languages
Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of other official United Nations languages is an advantage. Knowledge of other official United Nations languages is an advantage.
