JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to policy and programme activities that effectively incorporate gender and protection into WFP M&E system and assist in the design of indicators and monitoring tools where necessary.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support implementation of gender transformative programme (GTP)
  2. Support implementation of measures on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA)
  3. Coordinate and lead on implementation of complaints and feedback mechanisms (CFMs)
  4. Document and share experiences and lessons learned in the various gender activities;
  5. Facilitate and/or provide protection training for all WFP Malawi staff; and provide continuous information on gender and protection issues to WFP staff, through regular updates and information sharing;
  6. Contribute to the preparation of written reports, documents and communications related to gender and protection issues within WFP Malawi scope of work, in collaboration with Programme, M&E and Public Information units, and preparation of gender specific documents;
  7. Represent WFP in inter-agency gender and protection fora, provide inputs and information to these and assist WFP to coordinate other UN humanitarian agencies, NGO partners and other relevant interlocutors on assessments of current and emerging gender and protection issues and response planning;
  8. Contribute towards the development of a number of Gender protection projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance.
  9. Research and analyse policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes and activities.
  10. Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, monitor ongoing projects.
  11. Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to Gender protection initiatives.
  12. Provide guidance to support staff, acting as a point of Gender Protection referral and assisting them with analysis and queries.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in Social Sciences, Legal studies or other related field
Language:  Fluency in English language and local languages

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Has gained experience in implementing technical programs (i.e. gender protection etc.).
• Has implemented programmes and provided input into designing operations.
• Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions.
