Organizational Setting

The overall aim of this project is to provide Technical Assistance (TA) to strengthen the capacity of implementing agencies to successfully implement the Smallholder Agriculture Competitiveness Project (SACP) and reach expected SACP results. The implementing line agencies are Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). DAE is the lead agency under overall supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).


Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, direct supervision of the Senior Technical Advisor (STA) – SACP and in close coordination with the Post-harvest and Primary Processing Specialist, SACP Project Director and Components’ Directors.


Technical Focus

The incumbent will support the implementation of the activities aiming at improvement of the post-harvest and primary processing technologies for the selected high value crops. The duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following\:


Tasks and responsibilities

• Ensure implementation of the updated training manuals on harvest, post-harvest, primary processing and storage technologies.
• Co-facilitate refresher Training of Trainers on post-harvest, primary processing and storage techniques, with emphasis on reduction of post-harvest losses, ensuring better product quality, reduction of storage and transport losses, enhanced food safety and other value adding activities.
• Support trainers during the roll out of the training programme to the beneficiaries. Conduct regular monitoring missions in the field.
• Support development of simple processing guidelines for women and youth-led small-scale food processing business models. Co-facilitate Training of Trainers for the Project staff.
• Contribute to FAO-TA progress reports regarding the relevant activities.
• Perform any other related tasks as assigned by the Senior Technical Advisor.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in agricultural engineering/mechanization, food processing, agribusiness or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of English and Bangla.
• National of Bangladesh.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Experience in the field of promoting improved and adapted post-harvest, primary processing and storage technologies in Bangladesh.
• Experience in training and coaching, preferably of government extension staff.
• Excellent communication skills including writing skills, proven ability to convey complex ideas through clear communication, and concise reports, and effective oral presentations.
• Willingness to work as a team member with multicultural and multidisciplinary team of experts.
• Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives of the assignment work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivation, willingness to learn and good work ethics.
