Overview

This incumbent will address the overall project situation, and to provide advice to the GoB for the creation of an integrated national disease surveillance system and to set the stage for needed policy dialogues concerning the existing disease surveillance system.

Responsibilities

  • Work in liaison with IEDCR and other relevant stakeholders like ICDDR, BSMMU; NTP, EPI, WHO etc. as well as with CDC offices in Bangladesh and Atlanta, USA.
  • Conduct meetings, workshops and relevant desk review to understand and mapping of the disease surveillance system currently operational in Bangladesh which include how diseases of interest are captured, who is involved in capturing and reporting data, and how reports are submitted from sentinel sites to the central level. Moreover, who is analyzing those information’s and how the analyzed information are being used.
  • Conduct literature review and knowledge acquired will link to lessons learned from exercises such as the pharmacy mapping for COVID-19 which Jhpiego completed under RISE Test to Treat (T2T) project. A separate and detail report of this linkage will be produced and submitted.  
  • Undertake SWOT analysis of the current surveillance system to identify the bottlenecks and to formulate solutions to make the system more effective and efficient.
  • National and regional level meetings, workshops, FGDs and other necessary tasks will be conducted by Jhpiego with IEDCR and other relevant disease surveillance partners throughout the duration of the project, to outline project objectives including a detailed work plan in the form of a GANTT chart.
  • Workshop/s will be organized on Policy dialogues with relevant GoB and other stakeholders on proposed recommendations.
  • A landscape mapping report and relevant workshop reports will be generated and submitted to relevant bodies and to CDC, the project donor.
  • Supervise the Project Officer (Surveillance) and make sure s/he is performing all the task accordingly and following the Jhpiego Bangladesh CoC.
  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so once the technology completed, doing quality assessment by verifying generated contents

Required Qualifications

Advanced Degree in Cilinical Medicine (MBBS)

Masters in Public Health.

Minimum 12 years work experience in NGO Health sector in similar responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven understanding and hands-on experience in surveillance related project activities & initiatives.
  • Coordination with GOB and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs (MS Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Excellent influencing, advocacy, public relations, communication, and Networking skills.
