Head of Digital Platforms

Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

Location: Remote Working, but within proximity to London or Wilton, Wiltshire.

Salary: £71,990 - £77,503 depending upon experience

About us:

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action non-government organisation (NGO). For over thirty years, we have been saving lives and helping war-torn communities recover, by making their land safe. Our mission is to protect lives and restore the livelihoods of those affected by conflict.

HALO is known for its work to clear landmines, but we also lead on dealing with unexploded ordnance, from bullets to aircraft bombs, and we educate communities to keep them safe. We also build safe arms stores and systems for securing guns. HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 12,000 staff in 28 countries and territories.

About the role:

We are looking for a highly competent and experienced Head of Digital Platforms to work alongside the Head of Brand, Content and Partnership Comms, to develop a digital strategy that will help to build our brand, enhance donor outreach and support The HALO Trust’s growth plans.

As a rapidly expanding humanitarian NGO, with over 10,000 employees and 30 programmes around the world, we create and share a wealth of content with a broad range of stakeholders, both internal and external. Time and clicks are precious, and we’re on a mission to deliver a stand-out user experience that maximises the reach and performance of our content by making the best of technology, apps and software, while drawing on data and audience insights.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, this is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and committed digital leader to play a key role in transforming the way we communicate with our internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Take the lead in providing strategic advice to HALO on the use and development of digital comms and collaboration platforms, and managing/overseeing the development of our digital products
  • Provide the bridge between other comms or non-technical senior staff in the organisation with more technical colleagues and suppliers responsible for delivering digital platforms and content
  • Work with colleagues to understand the needs of our stakeholders; map user journeys and identify gaps/issues that could be addressed or augmented with new digital content streams, technologies or integrations
  • Review/audit our current digital framework including websites (halotrust.org and halousa.org), social media channels, email marketing and intranet; identify issues and missed opportunities; recommend quick fixes and longer term solutions, reflecting our organisational goals including fundraising and marketing
  • Support the content team with peer reviews, content audits and benchmarking
  • Establish a regular programme of user testing and work with colleagues to understand user behaviours or data patterns that can inform the way we create, publish and share content; be an ambassador for those users in discussions internally about digital comms and content development
  • Work with Head of Brand, Content and Partnership Comms to co-create a multi-channel digital strategy that helps our content stands out
  • Work with colleagues in HQ Comms, programmes and other directorates to define the optimal infrastructure for content collection and creation, so we can streamline requests and avoid duplication of effort
  • Develop a fit-for-purpose framework to set and manage our KPIs and ease the burden on quarterly reporting; continually review and enhance our approach to monitoring and reporting on media and social media engagement, and share analytics and other data insights with colleagues to inform decision-making and campaign planning
  • Guide our approach to optimising content and upskill colleagues to follow best practice so we can maximise reach and performance
  • Ensure we are using best value performance marketing tools to track website performance and bugs, manage SEO, PPC, organic and paid social
  • Recommend platforms/solutions that will support relationship building and collaboration within HALO and with donors, partners, Trustees and HALO Ambassadors
  • Commission suppliers and oversee delivery and maintenance of digital products and services on time and on budget (e.g. managing website development and hosting contracts)
  • Lead the development of the interim solution for HALO’s intranet; consider additional requirements for enhanced intranet in the medium/long term
  • Build the digital team and manage direct reports
  • Monitor trends and new technologies to keep HALO current and drive change where needed
