Description

The Halo Trust are looking for an experienced and passionate Philanthropy and Grants Manager to join the HALO Trust’s Global Philanthropy Team to lead existing and secure new high value partnerships with Philanthropic donors (Trusts and Foundations including Corporates).

The role will cover a period of maternity leave but with philanthropic income and investment in the team expected to continue to grow, we anticipate high potential for the role to become permanent.

The HALO Trust has doubled in size over the last eight years as a result of growing support from both Governments and philanthropic donors. Global income from philanthropic donors has tripled in three years – from circa £5 million to £15 million in 2022. This growth has been driven by six and seven figure partnerships with major donors, corporates and foundations, initiated by our exceptionally well-connected network of trustees and ambassadors - and nurtured by our committed and professional global philanthropy team.

Now is a great time to join HALO, as the Global Philanthropy Team builds on this early success by driving growth in new markets, refining our model of donor stewardship and developing our range of strategic funding products. The team has a global remit and this, together with HALO’s extensive geographic footprint, creates significant opportunities for growth in our portfolio of partnerships.

You will join a small team of highly skilled, experienced and driven fundraisers with a collaborative team culture and a commitment to investing in and supporting your development. You will report to the Head of Global Grants Partnerships (job share) and work closely with the Head as well as The Director of Global Philanthropy and Global Philanthropy Lead (leading on UHNW and HNWIs) and The Global Philanthropy Research and Insight Lead on key strategic accounts and new business. You will benefit from collaboration and knowledge sharing from two other Philanthropy and Grants Managers (who each manage a caseload of partnerships with Foundations, Corporates or HNWIs), as well as with vital support from the Philanthropy Operations Manager, and Philanthropy Coordinator.

The team benefits from HALO‘s well established funding support functions, including dedicated donor relations staff in each programme location. This enables our Philanthropy Managers to focus on relationship management and stewardship as well as broadening our base of partnerships. You will join a fast-paced, fluid and entrepreneurial context, responding to opportunities while laying the critical foundations for strategic growth.

By nurturing and growing high value partnerships this role plays a key role in supporting the delivery of HALO’s life-saving work around the world.

About Halo

Across the world, 60 million people in over 60 countries and territories live with the daily threat of landmines. These, and other lethal explosives left behind by fighting, endanger lives and devastate communities. Help cannot reach those in need, families cannot return home, land is too dangerous to farm and development stops.

The HALO Trust is the world's largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation. Our mission is to protect lives and restore livelihoods of people affected by conflict. With an annual turnover of over £120m, we work in 30 countries and territories, from the hot war zones of Ukraine, Libya and Yemen, to post conflict countries such as Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. We clear the explosive remnants of war and address the causes of conflict and fragility - from inadequate control of weapons and ammunition to food insecurity and land degradation. We work in partnership with national governments and local communities, employing and empowering over 13,000 women and men to build safe, resilient and prosperous communities able to withstand the interconnected challenges of conflict, climate change and political and economic instability.

In southern Angola our clearance work is part of a regional approach to develop conservation in support of Angola’s national plan to diversify their economy, protect their natural environment and create sustainable livelihoods. Angola has some of the world’s most important remaining wilderness, but the presence of landmines makes it almost impossible to apply the conservation measures needed to protect this vital resource. By clearing landmines, HALO can lay the foundations for life, agriculture and eco-tourism to thrive.

In Ukraine, HALO is the largest demining organisation, having operated in the Donbas since 2016. Russia’s invasion has resulted in mine laying and explosive contamination on a scale not seen in Europe since the Second World War, including across vast tracts of farmland. This prevents agricultural production, which is critical to Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Our growing programme is already clearing land across five regions, employing over 1,000 local Ukrainian staff—saving lives and bringing Ukraine’s farmland back into productive use as quickly as possible.

True peace cannot come until land is safe. HALO’s work to clear the deadly debris of war is the first step towards recovery and reconstruction. And the return of hope.
