Description

Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) is a collaborative programme with EUMETSAT for six geostationary meteorological satellites. It covers four imaging satellites (MTG-I) carrying a visible infrared imager, a lightning imager and search and rescue and data collection payloads, as well as two sounding satellites (MTG-S) carrying an infrared sounder and the Sentinel-4 instrument. The first MTG-I satellite was launched in December 2022, while the first MTG-S satellite will be ready for a launch in Q4 2024.

 

You will monitor and coordinate the hardware implementation activities for the FCI, LI and IRS recurrent instruments and elements to ensure their timely availability in accordance with programmatic and quality needs, and will report to the MTG Engineering and AITV Manager in the MTG Project within the Meteorological Programmes area, Earth Observation Projects Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

 

  • reporting regularly to the Satellite Engineering and AITV Manager, escalating technical, programmatic and personnel issues as appropriate;
  • maintaining close coordination with FCI, LI and IRS instrument engineers and the PA/QA Section, as well as with the AITV engineers and other specialist support, as required to ensure that hardware requirements are met in accordance with programmatic needs;
  • acting as the ESA point of contact for all routine IRS reporting, including coordinating the organisation of progress meetings and residual reviews at equipment, IA-DEA and IRS level;
  • close monitoring of the FCI, LI and IRS industrial hardware implementation activities, providing early warning of major problem areas and anomalies relating to tests or processes and ensuring that appropriate mitigation actions are identified and implemented to safeguard the timely delivery of the recurrent instrument flight models for launch or long-term storage;
  • supporting the preparation, implementation and evaluation of all recurrent instrument AITV activities, including any necessary delta qualification, by maintaining close coordination with the instrument suppliers, ensuring the timely resolution of NCRs and NRBs at instrument and equipment levels;
  • participating in IRRs, TRRs, PTRs, TRBs and NRBs, ensuring that the required specialist support from the ESA team is notified and available as appropriate;
  • ensuring that the required controls and formal test processes and procedures are applied by industry in coordination with the ESA PA/QA, instrument and AITV engineers;
  • supporting MTG project reviews;
  • supporting the launch campaign and LEOP/commissioning activities as defined within the relevant organisational documentation for each launch.

Education

A master’s degree in a relevant physical sciences or engineering discipline is required for this post.

Additional requirements

Proven experience in the development of satellite projects and systems engineering is required.

 

In addition, you should have:
