Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Security Adviser, the duties of the Security Associate include, but are not limited to: 
Security Team supervision and support: 
  • Acting as first level supervisor for security personnel performance appraisals. Overall supervision of the UN City Campus 1 & 2 security personnel on their daily security and training activities.
  • Assisting the Deputy Security Adviser in the overall supervision, performance management and training of the UN City Security and Safety Services in accordance with the applicable professional and institutional standards.
  • Assisting the Deputy Security Adviser in drafting SOPs, Post Orders, and other operational instructions for UN City security and other personnel.
  • Ensuring that security personnel at all levels complete their responsibilities according to their proper functions following the Standard Operating Procedures of the Security and safety Services.
  • Contribute in the implementation of security and safety training programs for security personnel and staff members at the UN City complex.
  • Under the guidance of the Chief Security Adviser and limited delegation of authority, acting as point of contact when the Deputy Security Adviser is temporarily absent from duty, as assigned. 
Safety and Security Services at the UN City: 
  • Supporting and coordinating staff activities and ensure that security technical assessments are performed as per UNOPS standards to support safe and effective program delivery.
  • Assisting the Deputy Security Adviser in contributing to in the implementation of risk management mitigation measures and maintaining/developing measures to improve compliance.
  • Revising the safety and security arrangements at the UN City, making recommendations to the Deputy Security Adviser to improve procedures and for proper distribution of personnel and staff assignments according to operational needs.
  • Handling all payments related to the daily operations of the Security and Safety Services.
  • Assisting the Deputy Security Adviser in supervision of the UN City events' security coordination.
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Security Adviser, contribute in operational planning and policy compliance with Standard Operating Procedures applicable to the conduct of security and safety operations at UN City.
  • As directed by the Deputy Security Adviser, performing physical security surveys and assisting in the Security Risk Management process at the UN City Campus 1 & 2 and other locations as required.
Security Networking:
  • As directed by the Deputy Security Adviser, maintaining regular contact and communication with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), the Host Country (HC) authorities, diplomatic security entities, and other resident UN organizations. Participating in the Security Cell, when required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: 
  • A Secondary degree and/or or relevant UN, police, military training is required.
  • Ability to exercise leadership and motivate others.
  • High sense of responsibility and alertness; emotional stability and neatness.
  • Excellent knowledge of security requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Computer and other technical skills.
  • Physical and mental fitness on duty.
  • Courtesy, tact and the ability to work and deal effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. 
Experience:
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency management in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required.
  • Experience managing personnel or teams is required.
  • Three (3) years working experience in the UN Security Management System is highly desirable.
  • Specialized experience in such areas as security programmes, risk assessments, or analysis is desirable.
  • Experience in field operations is desirable.
Language requirement:
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language and/or Danish is an advantage.
