POSITION TITLE: Vehicle Maintenance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Chief of Support

LOCATION: Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai, Egypt

About You

The Vehicle Maintenance Manager (VMM) is responsible for the planning and supervision of all vehicle maintenance, rectification and refurbishment activity required to maintain Force’s 600 strong vehicle fleet in a safe, roadworthy, and presentable condition.  The fleet comprises commercial light and heavy vehicles, (non-military) armoured vehicles, fuel and water tankers and airfield specialist fire-fighting vehicles.  The VMM is responsible for the management, co-ordination and supervision of the military, expatriate, and local workforce employed to manage the Fleet and maintain vehicles in two locations. The VMM is also the Budget Line Manager for vehicle maintenance and new vehicle purchases and is responsible for expenditure on each of the relevant budget lines. 

 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Vehicle Allocation: allocating vehicles to Force customers in accordance with the Fleet management plan and ensuring equal use across a fleet of the same vehicle type.
  • Vehicle Availability: ensuring that the required number of vehicles is available at all times to meet Force operational requirements, with priorities being dictated by Force Standing Orders.   
  • Efficiency: ensuring that each vehicle is maintained and / or repaired in a cost-effective manner.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: ensuring that each vehicle in maintained in a roadworthy condition and in accordance with its manufacturer’s maintenance schedules.
  • Maintenance Latitude: varying the manufacturers’ specified maintenance requirements to suit the local conditions but this excludes specifically extending them beyond the manufacturers’ recommendations for vehicles that are permitted off-Camp.
  • Maintenance Planning: using the MFO’s SAP ERP system to specify maintenance requirements for each vehicle, planning and coordinating vehicle maintenance activities. 
  • Work and Materials:  ensuring that all work time, materials, and parts consumed or required are entered on SAP Work Orders.
  • Reporting: preparing management reports, such as vehicles awaiting manpower, parts or inspection, and damage repair cost estimates in accordance with Force Standing Orders.
  • Off-Camp Repair: deciding whether to use commercial off-camp repair facilities for vehicle repair or refurbishment when deemed cost effective or when MFO assets are unsuitable.
  • Budget Line Manager (BLM):  the VMM is responsible for the cost-effective management of the new vehicle purchases and vehicle maintenance budgets used to procure all parts, tools, and test equipment.  
  • Material Requirements Planner (MRP): approving all requests for the procurement of all vehicle maintenance parts and consumables and working with the Force Inventory Manager to monitor and adjust stock levels.
  • Vehicle Recovery: coordinating vehicle recovery throughout the Sinai following breakdown or accident, or coordinating vehicle recovery in Israel in conjunction with MFOI Staff.
  • Warranty Recovery: overseeing warranty recovery for GM vehicles through the MFO GM dealership programme.
  • Vehicle Disposal: making informed decisions as to when a vehicle should be sold or scrapped in accordance with lifecycle depreciations and force directives.
  • Health and Safety: ensuring that the vehicles are maintained using safe working practices, ensuring that all personal protective equipment is taken into use when required and reviewing all workshop practices and risk assessments on an annual basis; 
  • Staff development: arranging, coordinating and implementing specialist training required to familiarise all staff with MFO specific or unusual equipment and / or vehicle maintenance procedures.
  • Evaluation of vehicle specifications for future purchases.
  • Frequent review of the Fleet mix to mission requirements.
  • Subject matter expert for all matters concerning vehicle performance and maintenance.
  • Liaison with HQ staff as appropriate on all vehicle related matters.

Our Requirements

  • U.K. City and Guilds or U.S. 2-year Junior College/Tech School standards or other educational programmes such as those conducted by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
  • Education or experience of managing a complex departmental budget.
  • A minimum total of 15 years’ experience in vehicle servicing with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position responsible for vehicle fleet maintenance and repair operations. 
  • Experience with General Motors, Mack and Volvo product lines.
  • Prior experience in a wide range of automotive service subjects such as: maintenance and repair; break-down analysis; service writing and management; parts identification and ordering; and vehicle electronics and diagnosis.
  • Previous experience in a military environment and/or the Middle East would be helpful.  
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle diagnostic test equipment.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and a positive customer service outlook. 
  • Strong computer literacy with word processing and spreadsheets, and experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP S/4 HANA, is required.
  • Ability to manage a complex budget such as the 5-year vehicle replacement budget.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position;

Conditions of Employment

·        This position carries an annual total salary of USD91,239.

·        A two-year, renewable, unaccompanied-status contract including free housing, meals, worldwide health insurance and recreational facilities is offered. May be eligible for tax free status.

·        Any appointment/extension of appointment is subject to the MFO HR Directives and other relevant internal rules. Any offer of employment with the MFO is conditional upon certification by the MFO Medical Adviser that the person concerned is medically fit to perform the specific inherent requirements of the position offered. To confirm an offer from the MFO the successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical examination.

·        Any extension of employment contracts is subject to various elements including the following:  continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.
