This position is based at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) - Noordwijk, Netherlands

 

The Systems Department is responsible for System Engineering, Software Engineering, Attitude and Orbit Control, Digital Engineering, Cost Engineering, In Orbit Demonstration projects, Technology Transfer & the Business Incubation Initiative, the Advanced Concepts Team and the management of the General Study Program (GSP).

Field(s) of activity for the internship

 

Topic: Systems & Concurrent Engineering: "Exploring the future of Space Design Environment"

 

1) Actively participate in and support:

  • Systems and concurrent engineering activities (including CDF Studies),
  • Technology developments (e.g. Digital Engineering, MBSE, Augmented Reality, AI, and the innovative trends as identified by the ESA Technology Strategy)
  • Design models and methodologies (including MBSE, design to cost, sustainability and Zero Debris roadmaps implementation, etc. addressing the ESA Agenda 2025)

 

2) Investigate on how technology developments in digitalization (e.g. MBSE, AI) and improved visualization (e.g. VR/AR) could evolve integrated digital environments connecting data, processes and people

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

 

Additional Requirements:

The following educational/practical background would be considered an asset:

  • Knowledge and Background in Systems Engineering, Mission Analysis and other system-related disciplines;
  • Knowledge and background in (model based) Systems Engineering and familiarity with COMET; 
  • Practical experience with AR/VR/XR technologies, such as Hololens, Blender, Unity, Physx or similar;
  • Programming experience in either C-sharp and/or Python;
  • Proficiency with office automation software and customization (e.g. Microsoft Sharepoint and Excel);
  • Experience with SysML and modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect or Capella;
  • Experience with engineering tools such as Matlab Simulink, CATIA, ASTOS, ECOSIM pro;
  • Experience with web application development (front and back-end).
