This position is based at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) - Noordwijk, Netherlands

 

Space-based telecommunication plays a crucial role in modern society, enabling global connectivity, secure communications, and supporting various applications such as satellite broadcasting, broadband internet, and mobile networks.

 

This internship will cover a range of topics related to SECURE space-based telecommunication, including:
A) Space system engineering principles
B) Secure Space-based Communication Systems including definitions of Security, through its pillars, and

  • How to achieve space telecommunications with high Availability.
  • How to achieve Confidentiality and Integrity (basic principles of COMSEC and CRYPTOSEC);
  • How space communication systems can help in distributing Position, Navigation and Timing information.

As an intern, you will contribute to the following tasks:

  • Supporting Threat Modelling and Security Risk Analysis of SATCOM systems
  • Supporting the review of development and deliverables of Industry activities 
  • Supporting the generation of security requirement specifications 
  • Supporting CSC Directorate Security Awareness Programme

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
