Overview of position

Description of the role:

  • This senior role calls for someone who is passionate about the power of communication, committed to editorial excellence & a talented strategic thinker with experience developing brand messaging that helps to transform business trajectories.

  • You will lead the creative team of 2 Designers & 1 Communications Specialist & our network of freelancers, ensuring that all content created is of exceptional quality & in line with our clients’ business priorities. You will work closely with the Communications Director & the Group Marketing Manager on strategy. You will work closely with the Communications Director, as the second most senior person on the team.

The Chelsea Group’s services range from humanitarian HR, clean water solutions, risk management & security, camp build & management for complex environments, crisis response & medical assistance, as well as leadership development. 

  • Chelsea Communications manages all the marketing & communication for these pioneering & diverse companies & is looking for the right person to join the team, to lead on all content & communications. 

  • The kind of work that we deliver is broad, ranging across content creation that gets to the heart of a business, internal communications including key message campaigns, branding & positioning & certain PR needs.

Our work is varied here is a sample of the kind of work you would be involved in:

  • Strategic repositioning of brands with regards to messaging, narrative & collateral (working closely with the CEOs of some of the group’s emerging brands).

  • Internal communication strategies, e.g. communicating with 10k humanitarians around the world.

  • Crisis communications.

  • Overseeing press releases in response to media enquiries.

  • Direction of speeches for CEOs at key events.

  • Working closely with social impact team to further develop sustainability & shared value strategies across the Chelsea Group.

  • Part of the brainstorming for creative concepts for marketing ouput.

Role objectives
  • Working closely with our clients at C-Suite level, alongside Communications Director.

  • Developing the strategic positioning of our clients’ brands, including brand narrative & messaging. 

  • Ensuring that all content & communication for every brand is consistent, impactful & relevant.

  • Responsible for sign off of all content that comes through the studio.

  • Overseeing & mentoring the creative design team (2 Designers) & the communications team (1 Communications Specialist).

  • Overseeing briefs for projects including copy & creative direction.

  • Working closely with the Communications Director in this shift from department to internal agency, helping to create methodologies.

Project reporting

This role reports to the Communications Director.

Key competencies
  • 15+ experience in marketing or communication s /PR. PR Directors would be a good fit.

  • 5 years in a senior strategy role. 

  • Relevant degree in marketing, communications or PR, journalism or English.

  • Client facing experience & confident to liaise with our clients’ CEOs & senior management.

  • Exceptional writing & editing skills.

  • An eye for detail, language, flow & grammar & an appreciation for the crafting of messaging.

  • Proven ability to develop brand voice.

  • Experience managing a team of Designers & Copywriters.

  • Ability to multitask & plan across a range of project.

  • Portfolio of work to share.

Team management

This role will be responsible for managing a small team.
